Get Ready for the First Ever Jenks Walk-a-Thon!

We’re so excited to announce the very first A.S. Jenks Walk-a-Thon happening during school hours on Friday, September 19th! This is a fun, active way for our students to come together, show their school spirit, and help raise important funds for our community.

What is the Walk-a-Thon?

During the Walk-a-Thon, students will walk laps around the school yard with their classmates, cheered on by teachers, volunteers, and friends. Each classroom will have its own fundraising page to build teamwork and excitement. Instead of focusing only on money raised, this event celebrates effort, participation, and school pride.

At the end of the day, two winning classes will be awarded the Jenks Walk-a-Thon Trophy:

One class from Grades K–2
One class from Grades 3–5The winners will be determined by the average number of laps completed per class — so every student’s effort counts!

Why We’re Walking

The Walk-a-Thon is more than just fun. It’s also an essential fundraiser that helps the HSA give back to Jenks through:

Supporting classroom needs
Funding enrichment programs
Hosting community events
Continuing to make Jenks a vibrant, welcoming place for every student

How Families Can Support

We know not every family can contribute financially — and that’s okay. Every bit of enthusiasm, cheering, and support makes a difference. Here are some easy ways to get involved:

Share your classroom page with family, friends, and community members.
- Post it on social media.
- Send a quick text to relatives.
- Email neighbors or coworkers.
Use our sample messages (see below) to make it even easier.
Cheer on your student at home — talk with them about the fun of the event and the importance of teamwork.

“My child’s school, A.S. Jenks, is holding its first Walk-a-Thon! Students will walk laps to raise money for classroom programs and school events. Our classroom is aiming high, and every pledge helps. You can support us here: [insert class page link]”
“We’re so excited to be part of the A.S. Jenks Walk-a-Thon! The kids are walking laps during school to raise money for Jenks programs and activities. Please consider supporting our classroom: [insert link]”

Calling All Business Owners

Do you own a local business and want to support Jenks? This is a perfect opportunity to get involved! Businesses can contribute in a variety of ways:

Make a donation to the event.
Sponsor a classroom to cheer them on toward their goal.
Provide in-kind support (snacks, water, supplies, etc.) to keep our students fueled and motivated.
Partner with us for future events and celebrations.

Business owners who participate will be recognized for their generosity and community spirit, and you’ll be directly supporting the students and families who make up the heart of South Philly.

Volunteer & Cheer on the Students

One of the best parts of the Walk-a-Thon is the incredible energy from our community! Families are invited to:

Volunteer on event day to help track laps, hand out water, or support classrooms.
Come cheer from the sidelines and celebrate the students’ hard work.
Make fun, colorful signs to show your Jenks pride and encourage the walkers.
